I saw Spike Lee’s “Blackkklansman” on Sunday evening, and it has taken me a bit of time to digest. Yes, this is one movie I think every human being should see, but also it will not change many minds, unfortunately.
So, I am going to focus on the movie itself. I really liked it. I think the humor was just so good, also the whole concept of the film itself. A slight complaint, the town they filmed it in was MOST DEFINITELY NOT Colorado Springs, which also made it funny to me. While the humor was much needed, the seriousness of the film was most present. It is a subject matter that will still be in place 100 years from now…it will never go away.
John David Washington played Ron Stallworth with expertise that you absolutely forget how good he really is, amazing roll for him, and he fulfilled. The other cast members were excellent as well.
Spike Lee has grown as a director, he really knows how to use the camera and edits to bring the story out fully, well done!
A stroke of genius, Harry Belafonte – WOW telling a lynching story, here is a man that lived this, just amazing.
All in all, I hope you will take the opportunity to see this amazing film. It is tough to see, but I think it is also because what is shown is still very much alive today.
It is absolutely worth 4.5 stars.
